Flight Training

I take one student per year, help you buy your helicopter and then give you my undivided attention in teaching you how to fly it.

I will teach you the inside track of all the aspects and responsibilities of  owning and running your helicopter. So that when you have your licence you are able to fly and manage your helicopter with ease.

Also I will take on a pilot already holding a PPL and owning his own helicopter, for further training to help you become more comfortable with your aircraft so that you can safely get more enjoyment from your flying.

I assure you the utmost discretion at all times so feel free to ask questions.

Private Pilots Licence (PPL)

General Requirements

  • - Minimum of 45 flying hours
  • - Pass 5 written theory exams
  • - Pass a basic medical examination
  • - Pass Irish Aviation Authority flight test

Outline of Course

  1. A minimum of 45 flying hours must be completed but can be flown at your leisure with your instructor, weather permitting.
  2. The theory exams require you to cover the syllabus of the individual exams: Air Law, Meteorology (weather), Navigation, Theory of Flight, Helicopter Type Technical (systems on the helicopter you will be flying) Human performance and Limitations(how your body and mind reacts to flying). These are not difficult subjects; however they do require a certain amount of reading and involve attending an evening course usually 2 nights a week for 3 months.
  3. The medical examination can be carried out by a number of locally appointed IAA GP’s. This examination usually involves a general heath and eyesight check. We would suggest you get it done early in your training just to make sure you are medically fit to hold a licence.
  4. The Irish Aviation Authority (IAA) flight test is to check that you are able to fly safely i.e. safely operate the helicopter, carry out all the emergency procedures, navigate the helicopter, use the radio, read the weather, load the helicopter correctly within its limits, know the Air Law, understand the airspace, know the aircraft systems, know the limits of your licence and exercise common sense to name but a few…..don’t worry you will cover all this in your training and the school will not sign you off for the flight test unless you are ready.
